What's happened? There is nothing that cause this sort of sort of destruction. Evastis was not unique in his thoughts. They were ones everybody wanted to voice, but didn't.
A vox-message broke into his train of thought. "Evastis," Destov asked. "What went on here?"
"I don't know," was the reply.
Evastis whipped his helmet off. His filter was removing too much, and he wanted to sniff the air. There was a hot tang of metal, a smell of void, of empty space. A smell of... blood. Evastis whirled around. He saw a bent power cable with his enhanced night vision, but not much else. It was evidence. He ran that way, and the smell of ozone became apparent, signaling lasgun blasts. Evastis whirled around a corner and stopped dead.
Two Guardsmen were gruesomely dead. One was ripped in half. His buddy had been beaten to death with his own arms.
The others caught up to Evastis. They had retained their helmets and could see much better. A shocked silence descended upon the group. Farrough was the first to break it. "Evastis, what did you do?"
"Nothing, sir. I found them in this state."
Destov- following Farrough's lead- asked, "But what killed them, then?"
"I have no idea."
Evastis slowly turned around, and walked away.
He heard yells and bolters being fired. Running back, something caught his eye. He whirled around, trying to track it and kill it. Behind him, he heard commotion. Evastis turned swiftly, only to face the largest thing he had ever seen. It bared its hundreds of giant, razor sharp teeth as it flew straight at him.
